  • Mussoorie-The Queen of the HillsThirty eight Kms from Dehradun is Mussoorie. With its green hills and varied flora and fauna, Mussoorie is a fascinating hill station. Also referred as the Queenof Hills, it offers wonderful views of the Himalayan snow ranges to the north east and the Doon valley, Roorkee, Saharanpur and Haridwar to the South, creating a serene atmosphere for the tourists. Mussoorie was discovered by Captain Young, an adventurous military officer in 1827. He was lured by the extraordinary beautiful ridge and laid the foundation of Mussoorie.

  • Tapkeshwar Temple- More than 3000 Year old Cave Temple of Shiva on the seasonal river. Here, Water water falls on the Shivling drop by drop from a Rock and hence the name Tabpkeshwar
     

  • Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib - Darbar Sahib is a world famous religious centre of the Udaseen sect. Shri Guru Ram Raiji Maharaj had established it for protecting and spreading the principles, traditions, ideals and philosphy of Hinduism, the oldest religion of the world. Darbar, Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj , situated at  Jhanda Mohalla Dehradun.
     

  • Jhande ji Guru Dwara DehradunSahastradhara- 14 kms. away, it is noted  for  its  natural   beauty  and  medicinal   waterfalls. Sahastradhara  is  a  very  popular  picnic  and   entertainment  spot.  Connected  by regular city bus services. 
     

  • Robbers Cave- 8 kms. away. Also known as 'Guchu Pani' it is a beautiful  picnic  spot. Local bus  services operate within  one  km.  of  Robbers Cave. 
     

  • Laxkshman Siddh- 12 kms. from Dehradun. A shrine built in homage to a saint called Lakshman Siddh, it is also a good picnic spot. On the road to Rishikesh it can be reached by bus services. 
     

  • Dak Pather- 45 kms. from Doon. It is the site of a hydel  project and has been developed into a  picnic and  recreation centre. Dak Pathar  is connected by regular bus services.
     

  • Lachhiwala- 13 kms. from Doon.  A  beautiful  picnic spot on the banks of a crystal clear stream surrounded by lush  green  forest.

Education

  • FRI DehradunForest research institute (FRI)-
    Seven kms from Clock Tower and just short of IMA is the magnificent building of the Forest Research Institute.

    FRI was built by the Britishers to impart forestry training in India. The main building houses some very thought provoking museums relating to different facets of forestry and it's studies. The institute today is a premier institute for training of fresh Indian Forest Service(IFS) recruits.
     

  • Wadia Institute
    From an intersection along the Chakrata Road, 5 Kms from Clock Tower on General Mahadeo Singh Marg is located the Wadia Institute of Himalayn Geology. The institute houses a unique museum on the Uttaranchal Glaciers.
     

  • IMA DehradunIndian Military Academy (IMA)-
    The Indian Military Academy became functional from 1st October 1932 with a course strength of 40 Gentlemen Cadets.

    Brigadier L. P. Collins, DSO, OBE was the first Commandant. The IMA building in Dehradun is known as Chetwode Building after the name of Field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode, who was then the Commander-in-Chief of India. IMA is located at 8 kms on Dehradun-Chakrata road and 3 kms beyond F.R.I.
     

  • Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP)-
    The Indian Institute of Petroleum is located in the beautiful valley of Dehradun situated at the foothills of Himalayas.

    The Institute was setup in October 1959, as a National Laboratory under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to provide technological backup and to train the cadres required for the petroleum industry.
     

  • Survey Of India-
    Founded in 1916, the Zoological Survey of  India,  5 kms away on Kaulagarh road, a department under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, is a premier National Institute exploring the faunal diversity of the country.

    It undertakes surveys in all the biogeographic zones to collect, identify, collate and inventories faunal diversity of our country. The museum of this institute has a variety of Himalayan faunal diversity.
